The charity we are raising money for is called The Jennifer Trust. They were formed in 1985 by Anita Macaulay after she lost her baby Jennifer to Spinal Muscular Atrophy Type 1 (SMA for short). They are only a small charity with approximately 15 full time employees.
During Abi's short life The Jennifer Trust gave us so much support which helped us through the difficult times. They have 2 Outreach workers who visit families across Britain affected by SMA. We had numerous visits from our Outreach worker Maggie Mchale and she still comes to see us now.
The Jennifer Trust also lent us a big box of sensory toys for Abi to play with. They also had other equipment available to borrow if we needed it.
As you can see The Jennifer Trust is only a small charity but the support to give to families affected by SMA is immeasurable. Since Abi passed away we have been raising money for The Jennifer Trust and so far we have raised approx £13,500.
Hopefully this walk can make a lot more money for them and also help to raise awareness of SMA. To find out more about The Jennifer Trust go to www.jtsma.org.uk.
